The role
Major Recruitment are looking for an experienced and innovative CNC Machinist to join a skilled engineering team. You will be responsible for setting, operating, and producing high-quality components on CNC machinery, working to tight tolerances and engineering drawings. The ideal candidate will be independent, research and development minded, and eager to contribute to process improvements and innovative machining solutions. The role will suit someone who takes pride in accuracy, quality, and efficiency within a fast-paced precision machining environment.
Key responsibilities
- Set and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines.
- Produce components accurately to engineering drawings, specifications and tolerances.
- Carry out first-off inspection and ongoing quality checks during production.
- Interpret technical drawings and machining instructions.
- Load materials, select tooling, and make adjustments where required.
- Monitor machine performance and report any faults or issues.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet production deadlines.
- Support continuous improvement in quality, efficiency and productivity.
- Contribute ideas and initiatives to develop and improve machining processes and techniques.
Required skills and experience
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist in a precision engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of CNC milling and/or turning processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Confident working to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of machining materials and tooling.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work as part of a team.
- Independent thinker with a research and development mindset.
- Innovative approach to problem solving and process improvement.
Desirable
- Experience with 5-axis machining.
- Programming knowledge, such as FANUC, Mazatrol or similar controls.
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, defence, or energy sectors.
- Previous experience in batch production and prototype work.
- Demonstrable interest in developing new techniques, processes or tooling solutions.
